Meet Regina

I am a current State Representative, a former Detroit Public Schools teacher, a former Oak Park City Council member, and a union member—investing in our schools, our communities, and in working families is deeply personal to me.

I know first-hand the devastating effect that decades of poor public policy has had on our schools across the state. I know that we can do so much better. I currently serve as Minority Vice Chair on the School Aid / Michigan Department of Education Subcommittee on Appropriations, and have been a fierce advocate for adequate and equitable school funding. I’m running for re-election because I believe that we need more educators in Lansing making critical decisions on education policy.

I am proud of what I accomplished serving on the Oak Park City Council, because I believe that local government plays a vital role in supporting the quality of life for all of us. Unfortunately, our state government does not adequately share resources with local communities. I’m running for re-election because I believe that Michigan needs to reinvest in our local communities to guarantee safe and affordable drinking water, affordable housing, senior services, modern roads and infrastructure, emergency services, parks and recreation amenities, and so much more.

I am a former DFT Local 231 Member, a current AFL-CIO Advocate Member, and I serve as Secretary of the Michigan Legislative Labor Caucus. Even though Michigan is the birthplace of the American union, decades of anti-union and anti-worker policy have chipped away at essential collective bargaining rights and workers rights. I’m running for re-election because I believe that we need to support workers and working families by restoring collective bargaining rights and enacting fair tax policies that guarantee that corporations and the wealthy pay their fair share, while providing relief for the vast majority of Michiganders.
